We know exactly how difficult it is for students to find a suitable room or apartment in Karlsruhe at the moment. Not too big, not too small, preferably close to the university/college, but still in a quiet location and, of course, as affordable as possible. All this in a new city and a new phase of life.

At Studierendenwerk Karlsruhe, we support you in all matters relating to your studies, including finding accommodation:

Studierendenwerk Karlsruhe operates 20 student residences in Karlsruhe and Pforzheim with more than 2,600 places. With an average rent of approximately €270, these are not only affordable, but also offer modern amenities in a location close to the university: free internet access, bicycle parking, laundry and drying facilities, and communal, sports, or recreation rooms, depending on the residence, leave nothing to be desired. Unfortunately, the number of rooms available in residences is insufficient, especially at the beginning of the semester in October. Even the more than 2,100 additional publicly subsidized dorm rooms cannot fully meet the demand for student housing. For many years, the Studierendenwerk Karlsruhe has therefore been operating a free room referral service. Approximately 3,000 rooms are referred in this way each year.

Another option: Living for help

Students provide support in everyday life and pay less rent. With “Wohnen für Hilfe,” you as a tenant only pay the utilities. Instead of paying rent, students commit to making everyday life easier for their landlords, for example by helping with gardening, shopping, or household chores.
